I started meditating in 2009 at the Shambhala Center. Having struggled with anxiety for most of my life, and with a few traumas, I was interested in adding healthy coping mechanisms that would help me feel grounded in the present.
In 2015, I switched to a twice-a-day, mantra-based Vedic practice after taking a course with my teacher Robbie Hammond.
The results were immediate, and I found it fairly easy to stick to the practice. I slept better, was less reactive, and decisions were easier to navigate. Better yet, it was easy to integrate into my day.
During the pandemic, I started a teacher training course taught by trusted initiators and friends who were committed to infusing the program with not only Vedic knowledge, but also principles of justice, equity, and inclusion—this was incredibly important to me as I wanted to teach to bring this incredible practice to everyone, but specifically more Black and brown people, as well as those who are incarcerated or may have experienced traumas.
